A mother (Emily Beth Beacham) and a fisherman (Matt Beacham) cross lines while fishing off of a pier in The Angler, a short film that is more than meets the eye.

The Angler features beautiful scenes set on a farm as the suspected love begins to kindle, but as is the case with the pier scenes, the dialogue comes across forced and distracting. Director David Darg’s film, written alongside the two stars, drags on until a reveal that changes the viewer’s perspective on the entire story, perhaps a bit too late.

Ultimately a tale of the lengths a mother will go to in order to provide for her child, The Angler lands the catch, but fails to reel it in.
